We highly recommend the Stanford webinar “Leadership During Turbulent Times” with Kaye Foster, Bob Sutton, and Huggy Rao.

In this free one-hour webinar provided through Stanford Online, thought-leader Kaye Foster speaks about plotting a path forward during turbulent times.  She uses examples from her leadership roles with companies and universities to provide usable advice for leaders.  More specifically, she recommends that during crises, leaders should 

#1, Pause to consider the principles that their organizations consider critical.  While pausing might be perceived as the opposite of what one should do in a crisis, it is necessary in order to respond effectively.  She explains that responding with urgency is not the same as responding with speed, and leaders, at all times, should “aspire for linear but plan for circuitous and discontinuous.”    

#2, Focus on capacity by fully using access to distributed expertise and leadership. Diversity contributes to an organization’s capacity to innovate and respond to the unexpected.
