Improve remote collaboration with video conferencing

Technology supported collaboration benefits from real-time synchronous interaction and communication. Fortunately, there are a number of collaboration technologies that support video conversations.  The following list includes eight collaboration technology options that allow for real-time video conversations.  Some of these tools also support chat, breakout rooms, screen sharing, recording, auto transcription, and other advanced features.

Zoom has become one of the most popular video conferencing tools used today because it can support a number of people at once.  Zoom includes options for chat, breakout rooms, screen sharing, recording, auto transcription, and annotation.  Zoom offers a free option as well as Individual and organizational licensing options.

Microsoft Teams is a useful organizational tool that supports not only video conferencing, chat, screen sharing, and recording.  Teams also supports shared teams spaces, file sharing, and phone call functionality.  Microsoft Teams does have a free option, but groups that already have Microsoft license agreements in place might be interested in this option.

WebEx is another popular organizational solution that offers a free basic plan for video collaboration as well as additional paid plans with more advanced features.

Google Meet is an accessible option that is free for everyone.  For users already comfortable with Google tools, this is a good choice.

Skype is a well-established option that allows for phone or video calls.  Skype for Business was replaced with Microsoft Teams as a solution for organizational users.

Remo is a virtual engagement platform that brings people together for round table networking and conversations.  This is a useful alternative to the breakout rooms offered by Zoom and WebEx.

Jitsi is an open-source solution for video conferencing that can allow for adoption and customization of video conferencing.

Free Conference is another free option for video conferencing.  This tool can be a good option for personal use and individuals looking to virtually connect with friends or family.
