How might remote workers use the metaverse?

Recently, the New York Times published an article about the metaverse titled, This is Life in the Metaverse. The article outlines an immersive experiment where the author spent a significant amount of time exploring Horizon Worlds metaverse looking to learn about how the metaverse is currently being used. This exploration is particularly interesting as the metaverse does have the potential to impact remote work and the interactions of remote workers.

If a team is looking to try out a metaverse to see how it can be used, a couple of easy-to-use options include Gather or Spot. Both of these virtual world environments offer office-like environments where team members can get together to talk, work on real time projects, or participate in team building activities. In fact, Loom is an example of a company that used the metaverse for their annual retreat in 2021 so that employees could safely gather in a synchronous space to “see” one another and connect. More about their experience can be found here
